Guideline for Daily Standup meeting

An effective daily standup meeting requires experimentation and motivation for the team to experience the benefits of this daily short meeting. However, most of the stand up meetings tend to be too long and get unfocused, thereby defecting the purpose of the daily standup. Here are some useful guidelines for a effective daily standup meeting:

  1. The Meeting should be held at fixed locations at fixed times, and should not be late, leave early, or absent. The advantage of doing this is that it allows everyone to form a habit, and by this way, the communication will become more natural and smooth.
  2. The so-called standup meeting, as the name suggests, is standing up and meeting, should not sit, or even lie down. Standing up in a meeting can make the meeting faster and more efficient, and it is guaranteed to be completed within 15 minutes. If you are meeting in a very comfortable position, then this will probably take off a longtime, which is contrary to the original intention of the meeting
  3. Everyone should state their work status in a concise and appropriate manner, and do not go into details. The discussion of the details can be discussed offline. In the meeting, we only pay attention to the status and problems encountered.
  4. One misconception about the daily standup meeting is that members of the team always think of reporting their work to the scrum master. This is not the case. Everyone in the meeting takes turns to speak to each member of the team about the status, so that everyone can understand your work, progress status, or requiring assistance for others. It aims to enhance communication and maximize collaboration of the entire team.
  5. One person at a time taking turns to speak and each person speaks only once. When someone speaks, other members should pay attention to listening, or ask questions. By doing so, you can get a clearer understanding of the progress of the others, and then you can work more smoothly and even get help.
  6. You use automate scrum management software for the tracking of progress (i.e. a Sprint board for user stories and tasks), so that you can trace the status of the sprint at a glance.
