Unlike traditional textbooks, LibreTexts\u2019 web based origins allow powerful integration of advanced features and new technologies to support learning.<\/p>\n

The LibreTexts mission is to unite students, faculty and scholars in a cooperative effort to develop an easy-to-use online platform for the construction, customization, and dissemination of OER content to reduce the burdens of unreasonable textbook costs to our students and society. The LibreTexts project is a multi-institutional collaborative venture to develop the next generation of openaccess texts to improve postsecondary education at all levels of higher learning by developing an Open Access Resource environment. The project currently consists of 14 independently operating and interconnected libraries that are constantly being optimized by students, faculty, and outside experts to supplant conventional paper-based books. These free textbook alternatives are organized within a central environment that is both vertically (from advance to basic level) and horizontally (across different fields) integrated.<\/p>\n

This intermediate graded reader is designed to move from simpler translation work (Galatians) towards more advanced readings from the book of James, the Septuagint, and from one of the Church Fathers. In each reading lesson, the Greek text is given, followed by supplemental notes that offer help with vocabulary, challenging word forms, and syntax. Discussion questions are also included to foster group conversation and engagement.<\/p>\n

The debate over Paul\u2019s use of \u1f14\u03c1\u03b3\u03b1 \u03bd\u03cc\u03bc\u03bf\u03c5 tends to focus on Galatians, where Paul engages in discussion over how one is justified: not by \u1f14\u03c1\u03b3\u03b1 \u03bd\u03cc\u03bc\u03bf\u03c5 but through \u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b9\u03c2 (\u1f38\u03b7\u03c3\u03bf\u1fe6) \u03a7\u03c1\u03b9\u03c3\u03c4\u03bf\u1fe6. These two concepts are held together most clearly in Galatians 2:16, where \u1f14\u03c1\u03b3\u03b1 \u03bd\u03cc\u03bc\u03bf\u03c5 is found three times in relation to justification. Again, in recent history, Paul\u2019s phrase \u1f14\u03c1\u03b3a \u03bd\u03cc\u03bc\u03bf\u03c5 has been understood to refer to some sort of identification marker, or a term referring to the boundaries of a group, while others argue that it implies strict adherence to all of the commandments of Torah.<\/p>\n

Scholars such as Garlington believe that attention to the preposition \u1f10\u03ba illuminates how Paul uses \u1f14\u03c1\u03b3\u03b1 \u03bd\u03cc\u03bc\u03bf\u03c5 in Galatians. When \u1f14\u03c1\u03b3\u03b1 \u03bd\u03cc\u03bc\u03bf\u03c5 is paired with \u1f10\u03ba, it may be appropriate to understand the complete phrase as referring to belonging to a certain realm\/sphere or remaining within the boundaries defined by Torah-works. We see this in 2:16 in the clauses \u03bf\u1f50 \u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03bf\u1fe6\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9 \u1f04\u03bd\u03b8\u03c1\u03c9\u03c0\u03bf\u03c2 \u1f10\u03be \u1f14\u03c1\u03b3\u03c9\u03bd \u03bd\u03cc\u03bc\u03bf\u03c5, \u1f35\u03bd\u03b1 \u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03c9\u03b8\u1ff6\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd \u1f10\u03ba \u03c0\u03af\u03c3\u03c4\u03b5\u03c9\u03c2 \u03a7\u03c1\u03b9\u03c3\u03c4\u03bf\u1fe6 \u03ba\u03b1\u1f76 \u03bf\u1f50\u03ba \u1f10\u03be \u1f14\u03c1\u03b3\u03c9\u03bd \u03bd\u03cc\u03bc\u03bf\u03c5, and \u1f10\u03be \u1f14\u03c1\u03b3\u03c9\u03bd \u03bd\u03cc\u03bc\u03bf\u03c5 \u03bf\u1f50 \u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03c9\u03b8\u03ae\u03c3\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9. Here Paul rejects the idea that a person is justified by God by \u201cbelonging to the arena of Torah-works\u201d; rather, one is justified \u201cwithin the realm of Christic faith . . .because no person will be justified by remaining within the sphere of Torahworks.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
