The longer the babies are fed on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/baby\/breastfeeding-and-bottle-feeding\/breastfeeding\/benefits\/\">breastmilk<\/a>, the greater the benefits for the health of mothers and babies. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/\">World Health Organization&#8217;s (WHO&#8217;s)<\/a> recommendation, babies should be breastfed exclusively in the first six months and continue to have breastmilk together with solid food in their diet until two years old or above.<\/p>\n<h3>The Benefits of Breastfeeding:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Breastmilk provides all the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medela.com\/breastfeeding\/mums-journey\/breast-milk-composition\">essential nutrients<\/a> that meet the baby&#8217;s needs in the first 6 months of life<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellfamily.com\/the-protein-in-breast-milk-3860951\">proteins in breastmilk<\/a> are easily digested and absorbed<\/li>\n<li>Breastmilk contains many antibodies and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellfamily.com\/immunoglobulins-antibodies-in-breast-milk-431993\">immunoglobulins<\/a>, which help to enhance the immunity of the baby, and reduce the chance of having allergic conditions and infections<\/li>\n<li>During breastfeeding, the close and intimate contact between the mother and baby greatly enhances mother-infant bonding<\/li>\n<li>Breastfeeding is more hygienic, convenient, economical and environmentally friendly than bottle feeding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Tips of Success:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Rooming in<br \/>\nLet your baby sleeps in a cot by your bed so you can observe his needs easily and respond readily<\/li>\n<li>Feeding on demand<br \/>\nLet your baby take the lead in feeding. Most newborns require frequent feeding of up to 8-12 times a day in the first month<\/li>\n<li>Family Support<br \/>\nResearch showed women with support from their partners and families being able to continue breastfeeding for six weeks is 8.5 times that of those without support<\/li>\n<li>Seek medical help<br \/>\nSeek help from health professionals when you are in doubt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>To Mum and Dad:<\/h3>\n<h4>\u201cHow do you know your baby is getting enough milk?\u201d<\/h4>\n<h4>Healthy full term Babies:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Feeding:\n<ul>\n<li>Feed at least 3 to 4 times on the first day<\/li>\n<li>Feed frequently for 8 to 12 times a day according to their needs from 2nd day onwards. They appear contented and satisfied after feeds<\/li>\n<li>However, every baby has his own feeding pattern. Some of them may need to be fed more frequently at certain time of the day. Therefore feed them according to their needs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Wet nappies\uff1a\n<ul>\n<li>Have 1 to 2 wet nappies for exclusively breastfed babies on the first 2 days<\/li>\n<li>Have at least 3 heavier nappies per day on the 3rd and 4th day<\/li>\n<li>Have 5 to 6 heavy nappies (equals to 3 tablespoons of water in a nappy) with clear or light yellowish urine after the 5th day<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Soiled nappies\uff1a\n<ul>\n<li>Pass black or dark green meconium on the first day<\/li>\n<li>Change from passing meconium to yellowish stool in the first 5 days<\/li>\n<li>Texture changes from loose or pasty to seedy gradually<\/li>\n<li>Pass at least 2 times yellowish stool per day (size of a $1 coin at least) in the first month<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Body weight:\n<ul>\n<li>It is normal for your baby to lose a bit of weight in the first few days after birth<\/li>\n<li>By the first to second week, your baby will regain the birth weight and then put on weight steadily<\/li>\n<li>He will gain at least 0.5 kg at the first month<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Mums:\n<ul>\n<li>Breastfeed exclusively and no need to add formula milk or water<\/li>\n<li>Be free from breasts and nipples sore, see or hear your babies swallowing while breastfeeding<\/li>\n<li>The fullness feeling in the breast become relieved after feeds in the first few weeks (may not notice the changes in the first few days as your milk hasn&#8217;t come in)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><iframe frameborder=\"0\" allowtransparency=\"true\" allowFullscreen=\"true\" style=\"width: 100%; height: 820px; border: none;\" src=\"https:\/\/online.visual-paradigm.com\/share\/book\/breastfeeding-10s0astegy?p=1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":14125,"template":"","meta":{"_yoast_wpseo_title":"","_yoast_wpseo_metadesc":"Breastfeeding is the best way to provide food to your newborn.
