Ratio<\/a> is a comparison of one number or quantity with another number or quantity. Read these examples of ratios and the units that are used. A general ratio may say \u201cparts\u201d for the units.<\/p>\n A proportion is a statement that two ratios are equal or equivalent.<\/p>\n Proportions can be used to solve many math problems. You will soon learn to use proportions to solve problems involving percent. The techniques you practice in the next few pages are important for that problem solving work.<\/p>\n Problems often give incomplete information; that is, one of the terms is missing.
